Medieval Household Hints now in stock at my local bricks-and-mortar book shop BooksStones You might not know, but they also stock the cutest Australian animal puppets (check out that little possum! ❤)

I have to confess, while it's a pretty awful photo of me, it really does highlight how much better I look in a barbette and with my hairnet all stuffed out with fake hair. It dresses my face, I think, and I really do understand why medieval women didn't mind wearing them, even though us modern gals say they look silly!

Also stay tuned for a pre-Mother's Day book event with me here, which I'll be announcing tomorrow!

Snacks at work today celebrating Medieval Household Hints with my work family!

I brought in several cakes and some fresh fruits and decorated with these fun figures! The set had some decent knights also, but most of the ladies, costumes were... as you'd expe3ct for kid's toys. These two Burgundian gown ladies were rocking some pretty nice head gear, so I brought them in.

Gotta celebrate the little things in life!

I'm excited to announce I'm partnering with InHouse Publishing for the rest of the little Medieval Wisdom Quote books set.

The
y're family owned and operated right here in Brisbane, (and have been for 25 years) employing local people. What this means for me, is that my little medieval quote set books can be ordered and sent out directly from their web shop and they'll handle my distribution for shops. I'll be announcing pre-orders for Medieval Household Hints: Advice of Running a Household From The Middle Ages Which You Still Need Today early next week, so keep an eye out for that!

Best for me is that along with the ones they'll be publishing for me, they'll be adding my first one in the set, Medieval Wisdom for Modern Women, to their book store as well and adding it to their new catalogue, so potentially it opens up a whole new reach for me.

Local sales have been well supported, but getting the book into shops has been a lot harder as an individual. Having an established publisher behind the new releases will lend a bit more street cred to the releases.

Pre-orders will go live early next week and the fantastic thing about this is there's no Amazon involved. The physical copies of books will be around four weeks (or slightly less) and I've had the guided tour through their facility and can confirm that any pre-orders will be honoured right up front (unlike the first book Amazon pre-orders which got cancelled and disappointed a lot of people and they had to re-order.)

There's other book news too, but that's still under wraps for now!

More text to add here, but the short version is Mango Publishing is now Key Lime Publishing, so you'll find me there. For those of us diligently avoiding Amazon, there are many shopping options which you'll find on my Where to Shop Page, but any bookshop should be able to get it in, so why not support them?

Look for me at BooksStones today for Love Your Bookshop Day 2026! Lots of cool stuff going on including find the Golden Ticket and win a ton of audiobooks for free! We have so much going on!

Chilling with Scarlet Skwirl.

I always have the best time at Stones Corner at my local book shop, I really do. People passing by like to stop and chat, and many of them are aspiring writers themselves, so there's lots to talk about. Others stop to say how much they like my outfit and ask where I got it. Sewing enthusiast just ask outright if I made it and we chat sewing. Quite a few have questions about medieval sex and where I get my information from. Some buy book sand others just take the free bookmarks, but either way, people leave happy with something to take home.

The book special I was running this year was very popular and definitely tipped the book-buying balance in my favour.

It was a great day and we stayed open an hour past usually Saturday closing time before I loaded up my trolley and strolled home back through the park. I was still in my medieval clothes, which made a posse of small party-goers very happy! To be honest, it makes me happy too!

The gates are still open, and I hope to see you if I haven't already!

A big thank you to everyone who has supported me, as funds from the book sales help fund the displays that I do! I appreciate every one of you!

I made a Museum treasure hunt!

A few weeks ago I had my official book launch for The Secret Lives of Single Medieval Women at the Abbey Museum of Art & Archaeology, and we had a short speech, lots of scrumptious food and I made this fun Scavenger Hunt for the Museum and Art Gallery for guests to really have a closer look at the displays!

While not all items are medieval, they are all things associated with the life of a single woman!

Here's our item card that I made! Obviously, you can't collect them. It was a find-and-photograph and first one back won a prize!

While not all items are medieval, they are all things associated with the life of a single woman! Writing implements, dress accessories, devotional literature and even the much beloved pet, the small white, fluffy dog! What might a woman do with a monk? Why, confess! (although players had lots of fun suggestions of things to do with monks! naughty! Naughty!)

Here's our item card that I made! Obviously, you can't collect them. It was a find-and-photograph and first one back won a prize!

The hunt itself was extremely successful with players racing around the museum and participants helping each other out with wild waving of arms saying "That way! That way!" and even museum staff dropping clues as to which cases to look in! All in all, much merriment was had, with people reporting that it was a lot more fun than they thought it would be.

The absolute funny part is that one of the items, the buckle and chape, was in a case which was out of display due to some water damage from a recent storm, and since people couldn’t see the exact item I had in mind, they were frantically looking for anything which might have been it. Answers included spotting a buckle on a suit or armour, in a painting, and on the clothes they were wearing themselves!

At the conclusion, there were two back at the same time with everything ticked off, so I decided that a runner up prize was in order and everyone left happy!

I've made a banner for book displays at markets or book signings and I'm absolutely loving it, but..

but...

I've used my niece for the picture because it's a great photo of her holding the book. But... well, now that I look at it again, it looks like she is Rosalie Gilbert, author, and not me.

What to do?

I can leave it and just be delighted with the pretty photo, or I can take a photo of myself with the book and use that instead, which I probably should do. It's my name on the sign, after all. I just hadn't thought it would look like it was her being me.

My thought was, use a picture of a pretty young woman with the book. She has one. You should have one too! My name is right under the picture though.

Or am I being silly? It looks really lovely!

I guess I'll need to have a bit of a think about it, but I've feeling now that looking at it again and again, that it should be me.

It's Love Your Bookshop Day 2023 on Saturday, 7th of October and I will be there loving my local Books@Stones Book Shop at Stones Corner in Brisbane. Co-incidentally, it's their 13th birthday too, so there will be an array of celebratory activities... face painting! Balloon shapes! Book signings! Discounts! Free Stuff!

And yours truly will be there in costume on the footpath signing my newest book, Medieval Wisdom for Modern Women: Self Care Advice & Warnings From The Middle Ages That You Still Need Today. I'm just so excited that it's been in my house for less than a week and already orders are coming in, I have a nice review and my amazing local book shop has leaped up to be the very first shop to stock the book! Other orders are already coming in, though, so hopefully it'll be available in more places.

Overseas shipping continues to be a headache, but since two or three books will squeeze into a postpack, I heartily recommend making the most of the post and share the shipping with a friend or two. Meanwhile, give your local bookshop some love.

I've needed to make a new footer for posts on my Author blog page for the new Medieval Wisdom for Modern Women book, so I did that today keeping in with the general pink theme.

And I've needed to update the other footer to add in the new book at the bottom and add a link to the website for ordering. So that's done too now.

The pre-book things continue getting all the things done for promotions... stickers to go on delivery boxes, new business cards with the cover on, a cute set of promotional bookmarks and a couple of coffee mugs for prize pack giveaways. At this point, it's all Australian posting. I looked into an Amazon release as well but to sell soft covers as actual books, I need to pay them to print them, which is essentially what I'm doing now here in Brisbane.o unless they get picked up by an actual publisher overseas, they'll not be going outside of Australia due to the horrendous postage pricing.

The Rosalie's Medieval Woman Online Shop is in place, upgraded from the other book shopping page, but there's no actual cart yet. People will need to email me with their order and use the PaypalMe function that Paypal has where I request a payment, so much like an invoice. It's better than nothing, and cheaper than an e-commerce business package or Etsy shop because I really don't think I'm going to sell huge quantities. Local bookshops, the museum shop and places which stock my other book are my main sellers anyway, so I feel it's not the end of the world. My son, who is in IT is checking out drop in webshops for me and we may have an affordable solution there. Maybe I need to re-look at Etsy but I think there are monthly fees which may outstrip what I make.

Anyway, busy weekend of getting things ready and getting promotional emails out ready for books to arrive, so they can go into shop Xmas catalogues as sweet little stocking fillers.

Wish me luck!
