With a few weeks to go, and still a huge amount of spring cleaning to go, I've started make the surcote for my teen niece for after hours at the Abbey Medieval Festival 2026.

It's based on the Luttrell Psalter and is a nice shade of purple. I usually avoid this as a colour for reenactment, but it's for after gates closed as the temp will hit around 3 degrees and we are camping in our tents in it.

I've cut the neck and armholes and have stitched down the neck and done the very top of the upper body near the sleeve so when I fold the arm-scythe, it folds onto a sewn seam, which will make it stronger.

I have yet to start my sister's one, but it's safe to say that it'll be hand finished around the neck and arms and unhemmed too.

Time is well and truly against me.

I hate, hate, hate, sewing against the clock. I hope you manage to get it at least mainly done.
