Hidden Masterpieces Fundraiser

sister_raphaelA very exciting event last night at the Abbey Museum of Art and Archaeology where four masterpieces from their art collection were on display prior to the opening of the new art gallery (that we are still raising money for.)

Note the Bridgefield Madonna in the centre. Only 3 copies were made. One was destroyed in the blitz, one lives in a private collection in France and the last is in our collection awaiting our gallery.
As a part of the ongoing research into several of the paintings in the museum collection, a number of art pieces were offered for individuals to either fund or contribute to the funding for the further study. One of the pieces was a beautiful Madonna and Child which was of great interest to me, but it was fully funded. My next favourite was a beautiful Angel with Lillies which is possibly late 16th or 17th century, so later than my period of interest, but still so beautiful! Seeing it in person was just so lovely with the head turned away and the flowers in her hand. It is thought that it may be a part of a bigger piece, but at this stage, it is speculation, so I took this amazing opportunity and I can't wait to see the results!
