I have had the world's worst time trying to get some fake food for a display for Family Fun Day. The cheese, especially has been incredibly problematic to get something believable that doesn't cost a huge amount of shipping to Australia. many of the companies have enormous wheels or unsuitable types, and I just wanted small, kid sized pieces for a photo booth.

There's a lady in Australia, Fake Food Australia, who makes really great stuff, but, as I've discovered, the pies are too fragile to have anywhere near kids, in case they crush them in their hands. Kids being kids and all.

I have some other fruits and eggs and am now drying out some buns to make nice loaves of bread, the cheeses remained elusive.

Then a few days ago, I found a wooden food play set in an office supplies shop of all places, and the pieces were the right size, if not a little crisp around the edges, so I bought the set and have added some wood putty to add a slight texture. There were two styles of cheese, and my plan is, after they dry, I can sand them a little so they aren't chunky but also not perfectly flat, and then repaint them to appropriate cheese colours. The red rind was all wrong for this, but a selection of yellows and creams will be great!
