I'm checking out Instagram alternatives.


Meta is increasingly more invasive and the feeds is so choked with ads and suggestions it's just awful. I know Bluesky will be launching Bluesky Flashes very shortly, and I feel it will be the preferred new favourite.  A friend jumped ship to the Fediverse, specifically Pixelfed,  an open source which is compatible with Mastodon and others, so I signed up and posted a handful of opening posts and had a look around for medieval content.

Gentle reader, I found very, very little. I did find two new posters with great content who were established, but you can imagine my surprise when within 24 hours I had 40 followers, of whom I knew 2. I will stay for 6 months so see how it goes as there were a ton of new accounts from the last week or two. I may even just stay even if it's not the same larger numbers as Insta because thus far, it's a new audience and the few new people I've found are also not on the other platforms.
