sister_raphael | Put Yourself In The Picture

This is a really fun activity I've run at a past few events which was wildly popular with festival goers and I'm running it again at History Alive this year in a few weeks!

So many displays are "Please Don't Touch Anything!" that the chance to step right into our photo booth and be a part of it and have us snap a memento photo on their own phones is pretty fun for everyone!

Of course it's stealth education as well! When people pick up the pewter flagon, they feel the weight and we talk about what it's made of, and how we know that it looks like that! The same for glassware: fighting those myths that glassware had to be chunky and undecorated.

The food too, offers conversation! The fact that Form of Cury is a recipe book and that many foods aren't rotten with spices to hide the rancidness comes as a surprise as does the array of pies and tarts and nice tablecloths!

They leave with a photo but also having learned a lot about medieval meals so it's fun for us too!
